Why we invested
The home improvement and furniture market in India is witnessing robust growth, driven by rising disposable incomes, urbanization, and a growing preference for organized services. The sector, valued at $27 billion by 2022, is growing at a CAGR of ~13%, with the organized segment expanding at 20% annually. The modular kitchen market, a key focus for HomeLane, is growing even faster at a remarkable 51.8% CAGR. With approximately 255,000 new apartment units absorbed annually in India’s top cities, HomeLane is well-positioned to capitalize on the increasing demand for high-quality, hassle-free home furnishing solutions.
HomeLane addresses key pain points in the home improvement sector, which is traditionally fragmented and dominated by unorganized carpenters. Customers often face inconsistent pricing, unreliable service, and quality issues. HomeLane offers a tech-enabled, standardized solution by providing modular kitchens, wardrobes, and TV units with upfront pricing, transparent quotations, and guaranteed service quality. By coordinating with its franchise partners (Square Partners) for installation and leasing full manufacturing lines, HomeLane ensures cost efficiency and streamlined operations. Its negative working capital cycle, where customers pay in advance, further strengthens its financial model.
The founders’ focus on technology and operational excellence has allowed HomeLane to expand rapidly across India. Our investment thesis is based on HomeLane’s scalable model, strong market demand, and its ability to capture a growing share of the organized home improvement market.
